Commitment To and Expectations of Staff Based on the fact that employees are Council’s most valuable resource, incurring the greatest outlay, the following factors directly relate to individual staff: Customer Service A Customer Service Charter, outlining the Town’s expectations in relation to the provisions and quality of Customer Service has been implemented and must be adhered to. A staff recognition scheme has been implemented to reward outstanding customer service. Ethics There is a strict principle of “not only doing the right thing, but being seen to do the right thing”. This is achieved through behaviour that demonstrates mutual trust, honesty and respect for others. Employee Relations A professional development and training program linked to the annual staff development review is provided. A commitment to career path planning is demonstrated through extensive multi skilling and job rotation. Contemporary Employee Relations policies, practices and procedures, which support the Town’s commitment to the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity and Occupational Safety and Health exist in the workplace and will be reviewed regularly. Communication The Town of Victoria Park has fostered an environment in which full and open communication ensures information is readily and freely available. The “open door” policy is a reality, and use of each person’s given name is encouraged. A totally corporate and committed team approach with all employees working for and belonging to the Town of Victoria Park is the first and foremost principle, and overrides any reference to “divisions” or “service points”. Innovative Workplace Management practices have been established that support a results and outcome oriented environment through the encouragement of innovation, flexibility, contestability and change within the workplace. Resources A council subsidised corporate uniform is available for all permanent staff members. The Town of Victoria Park provides modern equipment and amenities for the benefit of all staff.
