Smoky vehicles contribute to poor urban air quality and can be in breach of the 10 second rule for visible vehicle emissions. The Department of Environment and Conservation operates a smoky vehicle reporting program, which relies on community participation to identify smoky vehicles. Reports will require;
- Viewing a vehicle emitting smoke for 10 seconds or more.
- The vehicle registration number, make, model and colour.
- The location, date and at the time of viewing.
- Your personal details
Regular servicing of your vehicle can prevent this problem and result in less vehicle emissions to the atmosphere.
