 State Cat Control Legislation

Open for Public Comment: 30 July 2010

A Consultation Paper on proposed domestic cat control legislation has been released for public comment.

The proposed legislation aims to reduce the thousands of cats euthanised each year and to limit the impact of stray cats on the community and environment through:

·  Compulsory identification through micro-chipping;

·  Compulsory registration; and

·  Compulsory sterilisation.

Comments on the proposed legislation are to be directed to Ms Darrelle Merritt, Principal Policy Officer Department of Local Government by Friday, 30 July 2010.
